Ever-loving God, your Son gives himself as living bread for the life of the world. Fill us with such a knowledge of his presence that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life to serve you continually, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen
When it comes to an early education, not all preschools are the same. While all have common programs that will help a child grow physically, cognitively, and educationally, some are excluding key features that will help your child develop to their fullest potential at an early age. A preschool’s approach to education and discipline may be consistent across many schools, but many are missing a valuable element that will contribute to a lifelong of learning, meaning, and purpose. The missing piece is a spiritual foundation for a child to grow and continue their formative education well adjusted, with Christian values and beliefs that will carry them forward into their elementary education. The cognitive, social, and spiritual foundations of a great Christian preschool education will ensure that a child can realize their maximum potential.
Preschoolers love to learn. Even though they may ignore commands from adults and become frustrated if they don’t have their way, they are incredibly eager to learn from their teachers. The value that a strong Christian preschool education places on a start to social development is indispensable. The social development and self concept of a child at these early ages is essential to their growth and development academically. While preschoolers do need rules and regulations, a loving and caring atmosphere must be provided for them to develop an appreciation for learning, with a spiritual dimension of love and concern for others. Preschoolers need a Christian preschool education that promotes: sharing, interaction with others, responsibility, expression of feelings, making good choices, compromise, and starting/finishing projects.
Early Growth And Learning
While preschoolers are beginning their social development, they are also better able to develop emotionally as well. A good Christian preschool will give a child the chance to develop holistically with activities such as: stories, learning the alphabet, numbers and counting, arts and crafts, music, motor development activities, outdoor play, field trips and more. It is also important that the preschool provides a supervised environment that allows children to play freely and learn how to share and cooperate with others.
An important and forgotten element to choosing the best Christian preschool education is asking the right questions as a parent. The first question to ask yourself is: “Is the preschool teaching values and perspectives that align with those I am teaching my child at home?” The answer to this question can ultimately determine the type of preschool you want. If you are raising your child in a loving, supporting environment of family values and a Christian upbringing, you are on the right track. A second question to follow up with is to the instructors. You should ask the teachers about themselves and their background. Learn their values and beliefs and discuss your values and beliefs. Make sure yours will be either supported or mold to the higher standard of theirs. Preschoolers love learning, so these teaching styles will surely be passed on to their preschool students. It is important that after having a conversation with your child’s potential teachers. Then, partner with them. You can help not only your child but the other children in their preschool as well. A good Christian preschool will staff teachers and church members who emulate strong Christian values and an appreciation for children’s social and emotional development.
Spiritual Development In Early Learning
The unique approach of a high-quality Christian preschool is its spiritual nourishment to a child. Alongside fostering social and emotional development, many preschools forget that setting the foundation for a spiritual life begins at an early age. Preschool children would benefit from a Christian preschool that incorporates the bible and its teachings into its curriculum. A child should not only learn about people, animals, nature, colors, shapes, and other simplicities without knowing that God created them. They should not learn about kindness and compassion, understanding, tolerance and love for their friend without knowing that God embodies all of these things. It is important for a preschool child to not only learn these things by playing with their peers and learning lessons from their teachers, but also attending a weekly, fun chapel service that is bible based. Here they will learn to appreciate a loving God in their lives and embrace the values and beliefs of their teacher at a young age. When children have this upbringing, they will gain a headstart in adjusting to elementary school than they would have in a less spiritually, socially, and emotionally centered preschool environment.

Gracious God, your blessed Son came down from heaven to be the true bread that gives life to the world. Give us this bread always, that he may live in us and we in him, and that, strengthened by this food, we may live as his body in the world, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
The hallmark of a true Christian is not just accepting Christ as Lord and Savior, but giving of yourself to others and spreading God’s love throughout the world, in the church, but most importantly, in the community. Though we live in Northern Virginia, one of the most affluent areas in the entire United States, there is still work to be done to help those less fortunate than ourselves. It is our mission to shine as examples of those who seek Jesus and care about healing our community, especially by spreading love through service. By doing so, we ultimately better all of God’s magnificent creation. Our primary purpose is to try and be just as loving and giving as God. Our commitment is to service, and our ministry seeks not to close itself off to the the world, but rather open our hands to give.
There are a variety of ways you can get involved in spreading love through service by serving your neighbors and the greater Northern Virginia community. Our service and outreach programs at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church have given needed care, comfort and hope to those we serve, and we hope that you can be inspired to contribute, and become an extension of the ministry. Here is a great list of service activities you can involve yourself in to help bring a smile to someone’s face and healing to the world. Reach out to Pastor Paul from Fairfax Christ Lutheran Church for more information on how to get involved in the ministry’s service projects.
Helping Feed Low Income Families
Providing food and assistance to those who are hungry and less fortunate is a wonderful way to serve others and help the community. There are many non-profit organizations in the Northern Virginia community that are active in providing meals for struggling families. One organization, Britepaths, helps low-income families by providing a food program for selected Fairfax County families. There are also Northern Virginia churches who deliver food to homeless shelters every month. Charities like these allow you to be an instrument of God’s kindness in giving these families the food and supplies they need.
Helping Homeless Neighbors
Clothing, feeding, and providing a home for our homeless neighbors is one of the best ways to be of service. Organizations like FACETS, The Fairfax Area Christian Emergency & Transitional Services, provide homeless and financially struggling individuals with daily meals. Homeless shelters like the Lamb Center also provide those without homes shelter, food, and other services. Here, Pastor Paul leads chapel services during the week. This could be an opportunity for you to learn more about God and be of help to His children in a unique way, spreading love through service. Getting active in volunteering for the Salvation Army is another great way to be of service as well, along with helping the Hypothermia Project every winter sponsored by FACETS to provide the homeless with warm food and shelter.
Helping Those In Times Of Crisis
There are many crisis centers and organizations for you to volunteer for. The Fairfax Immediate Sympathetic Help is one that is there to help those who with problems due to money, food, and clothing. They provide assistance to the needy and elderly in Fairfax County. There are also many crisis hotlines and centers for you to be of assistance to. The Domestic Violence Action Center here in Fairfax is an organization that helps battered women and their families receive the help and care they need in times of severe distress. By helping those in pain and in need, that is where we can truly find God’s love.
Fairfax Christ Lutheran is a participant in Habitat For Humanity, an organization that builds housing for low income families. Getting involved in this organization will bring you joy in helping those who hope for a better home to live in realize that dream. Many other churches and community members are involved in our project as well.
Opportunities of spreading love through service in the community are plentiful, this is just one of the many ways that God gives us opportunities to heal the world, right in our own backyard. By reaching out your hand to your brothers and sisters, you will receive more satisfaction than anything else you would have expected to gain from a personal goal. You can truly make a difference in your community and in the world by offering your love to give to others and share in their experiences. For more information and inspiration on how to get more involved in serving the Northern Virginia community, contact Pastor Paul Collinson-Streng at email@example.com. We hope to see you at church soon!
